Extracurricular activities aren’t always something that kids are excited about. After all, it takes up their precious free time that they could use for playing video games, watching TV, or browsing their smartphones.

However, this shouldn’t stop you as a parent from trying to find ways to encourage your kids to take part in extracurricular activities, considering it will help them socialize and learn new skills. Here are some of the best ways to do it.

Suggest Extracurricular Activity They Will Enjoy

The most important thing is that you suggest a type of extracurricular activity you believe your kid will enjoy. If they like music, suggest dancing or music lessons. If they enjoy sports, sign them up for practice. This way, they will be more excited about extracurricular activities and won’t look for ways to avoid them.

Propose a Trial Period

In case your kid isn’t too convinced about extracurricular activities, propose a trial period. Tell them they can try it out for a month or two and quit if they don’t like it. The worst thing you can do is to continue pushing your kid to engage in extracurricular activities they don’t enjoy.

Offer a Reward

Finally, you can always give the good ol’ “reward” tactic a go. If you believe your kid would benefit from a particular extracurricular activity, offer them a reward. This way, they will be more motivated and determined to see things through.
