The post 1-Year-Old Starts Choosing Books Over Toys After Mom Reads to Her Every Day appeared first on parentztalk.com.
]]>The reel shows a one-year-old named Sophie as she sits in an indoor playhouse and “reads” her books. The little girl is visibly excited as she goes through pages and is attempting to make sense of the words and pictures and speak them out loud.
In the caption of the reel, Sophie’s mom shared that she started reading to her daughter since she was a “tiny baby.” Although the reading sessions were infrequent at first, she later made them a regular habit. She was reading to Sophie before naps and started bringing them everywhere.
It didn’t take long before Sophie became intrigued with the books and wanted to do some reading as well. Nowadays, it is her favorite activity, one that even tops playing with toys.
“She spends 20-40 minutes reading on her own before a nap, often choosing books over toys. Watching that melts my heart every time,” Sophie’s mom explained.
You can check out the video featuring Sophie’s reading session below.

]]>The video features a toddler named Auggie, who is shopping with his dad. He was told that he can only get a toy that fits in his hand but ended up picking up a large toy DJ set by Fisher-Price.
The dad then tells him that while he can carry the toy, it still doesn’t fit in his hand. At that point, the boy decides to get creative.
Auggie returns the toy on the shelf and then uses the opening in the box to lift it with one hand while looking quite proud of himself.
While the video doesn’t show Auggie walking out of the store with the toy, something tells us that he got what he wanted.
It appears that Auggie likes toys very much and that his parents are happy to indulge him. In another video shared on his Instagram profile, which is run by his parents, Auggie is shown shopping alongside his sister, and they are each sporting a basket filled with toys.

]]>Instagram user Elkey Zandstra recently shared a series of clips in which she showcased how her husband, William, became a master of “horizontal parenting.” For those unfamiliar with the term, horizontal parenting refers to situations in which parents are able to remain engaged with their kids while lying down.
William decided to take horizontal parenting to a whole new level, coming up with all sorts of games that would allow his kids to have fun and give him the opportunity to snooze or simply recharge by doing nothing.
One of those games saw William turn himself into an Operation board game. He made a cardboard copy of the human body, created various organs, and then cut the holes in the cardboard where the organs should go. He then got himself comfortable on the floor, placed the cardboard on top of himself, and instructed the kids to try and place organs in their right place. He would occasionally complain if they made mistakes.
Besides this “advanced” version of horizontal parenting, William also turned himself into a toy that produced animal sounds, served as a coffee table, and acted as a surface for the zen garden.
