Simple Snacks Your Kids Will Love

When your kids are clamoring for some food, it’s oh-so-tempting to reach for the cookie jar or candy bars and hand them out. However, most parents want their kids to be eating healthy most of the time. These snack ideas are quick, popular with kids, and healthy, so you can hand them out happily, knowing they are doing a lot of good.

Cheese and Oat Bars

Ingredients (to make 12):

  • 1 cup of oats
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup of grated cheese
  • 1/4 cup of chia seeds
  • 5 tablespoons of water
  • 1 tablespoon of mixed green herbs, fresh or dried
  • A good grind of black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Mix the oats with the water and chia seeds. Stir well, and then allow to sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Stir the grated cheese and oil into the oat mix, if it’s feeling really stiff then add a little more water.
  3. Sprinkle in the herbs and pepper, mix again, and then form the mix into bars or balls and lay them out on some greaseproof paper on a tray or plate.
  4. Chill the bars in the fridge to set for 1-2 hours, and then serve.

Berry Yogurt Pots

Ingredients (to make 4):

  • 2 cups of natural yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons of flaxseeds
  • 1 cup of fresh or frozen berries
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1/2 cup of granola

Instructions:

  1. Mix the honey with the flaxseeds.
  2. In cups, bowls, or pots, layer the yogurt with fresh berries, flaxseeds, and granola.
