How to Choose the Best Sunscreen for Your Kids

Sunscreen is so important for keeping your skin safe from dangerous UV rays. This is even more important for kids’ sensitive skin which can get burnt or damaged faster than adults’. With dozens of options on the market, how do you know which sunscreen is best? Here are a few tips for finding one that is both effective and safe to use.

Broad-Spectrum Protection

Check the label to make sure that the sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays can prematurely age the skin, and UVB rays can cause sunburn. So protection against both is important.

Ingredients

Look for products that are hypoallergenic and free of harsh chemicals and fragrances. Mineral-based sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are often gentler on the skin. You can also check out the Environmental Working Group website for recommendations. They do a great job of rating products based on their ingredient list.

Avoid Sprays

Sunscreens come in various forms—creams, lotions, sprays, and sticks. Sprays can be convenient but often include more harmful chemicals. For kids, creams and lotions tend to be safer and provide better coverage. They are also less likely to be inhaled when applying.
