The right dog will make a great additional member of the family, but it’s understandably a more complicated decision if you have young kids. Here are three breeds of dog that are well-suited to being around young children.
Beagle
Beagles are great around young children as they are not too big, but they are also very patient and tolerant. They are also known for being mischievous and cheeky, so they can form a bit of a dream team with young kids in their ability to create mischief!
Pug
Pugs are a fantastic first family pet due to their small size and extremely loyal tendencies. They also don’t require extremely long walks to tire them out, so they are a good match for young kids with little legs.
Labrador
Labradors are one of the most popular family dogs so it’s no surprise that they are also very good with young children. Known for their friendly nature, they also have bags of energy which is a big plus when interacting with kids. Young Labradors may even have too much energy so it’s perhaps worth considering rehoming a slightly older one.
