For many parents, technological innovation comes with many dangers, such as an abundance of screen time for their kids as well as the dangers of social media. Still, there are some reasons that you should allow your kids to enjoy some screen time. Here are some intriguing ways that a little screen time can actually benefit your kids.

Becoming Sociable

While physical distance used to be a barrier to spending time with friends, technology allows you to connect from a distance. Through messaging and phone calls, your kids get the opportunity to speak and therefore develop their social skills.

Critical Thinking

Although not all games are beneficial, some video games and apps are filled with puzzles that will help your kids hone their critical thinking skills. While vetting the games is important to ensure they’re suitable for your kids, the right games may help your kids enhance their problem-solving and expand their perspectives.

Getting Ready for School

Many educational games, ebooks, and educational websites are filled with informative content that will increase your kid’s knowledge and prepare them for school. What’s more, learning becomes more enjoyable when having fun, so online learning could in fact advance your child’s education at a faster pace than conventional schooling.

From playing with friends to exploring their environment, toddlers are always moving and growing. Still, there are some ways to advance their development even further with some parental involvement. Here are some fundamental activities that will be sure to boost your child’s development.

Touching Textures

For your little one, touching, smelling, and tasting different textures helps them to make sense of the world around them. As a result, it’s a good idea to help them out by providing them with textures to feel such as sandpaper, cotton balls, and rubberized toys. In order to prepare your child to learn how to write, show them letters and let them trace them with their fingers to become familiar with the alphabet.

Organize the Home

By keeping your home organized, you’ll be able to help your child make better sense of their environment while also ensuring that they get into the habit of being organized themselves. Some ways you can do this is by putting labels on objects around the house and perhaps playing games where you ask your kids to place household items in their rightful homes.

Scavenger Hunts

Being natural explorers, your kid would surely enjoy embarking on a scavenger hunt in which they would uncover interesting items. In addition to being exciting, scavenger hunts help your child to identify shapes, colors, and the names of the prized items involved.

From making new friends to fitting in at school, your kids will need to adopt good manners in order to gain favor with the people they meet. here are some of the basic manners that you should consider teaching your kids in order to make a good impression wherever they go.

Waiting Their Turn

When entering into a conversation, make sure that your children know to wait their turn. Not only does this help them improve their patience and ability to listen, but teaches them the vital lesson that everybody deserves a chance to be heard and enjoy equality.

Know When To Keep Quiet

Sometimes, children blurt out their observations even when such comments are not welcome. After all, small children do not have the filter that older people have. Make sure that your kids understand that if they don’t have something pleasant to say, rather say nothing at all.

Answer When Spoken To

Teach your children that when people approach them and talk, they should respond with a greeting in return. After all, if they want to receive respect from other people, they’ll need to know how to give respect to others as well. It’s also important to show people consideration by asking them how they are.

Getting kids to read is hard nowadays, considering all the distractions can be more appealing to them, like video games and television. However, you might have better luck with comic books. They are more interesting to kids due to their stories and drawings while also providing them with the benefits below.

The First Step Towards Book Reading

Comic books can open the world of book reading to your kid. Through comic books, kids can develop reading habits at a young age and will be more open to picking up traditional books in the future.

Rewarding and Build Confidence

It takes a lot of time to finish a traditional book, especially for younger kids. Comic books are usually a shorter read that can be finished in one sitting. Finishing a comic book will come with a rewarding feel for the kid and help them build confidence when it comes to their reading skills.

Improve Vocabulary

Comic books often get a bad rap for what is perceived as simplistic dialog. But the truth is that those dialogs contain an expansive vocabulary that your kid can adopt. Additionally, the drawing will help them understand new words better.

They’re Fun!

Comic books are simply fun. They contain all sorts of intriguing stories, often set in the fantasy or sci-fi world, which are quite appealing to young kids. Also, the illustrations in the comic books are top-notch and fuel your kid’s imagination.

Parenting is often portrayed as a journey filled with nurturing, love, and understanding. But occasionally, playing the “bad cop” can be just as important as being the good cop. It might seem counterintuitive, but there are times when being the enforcer or setting boundaries is a crucial aspect of parenting. Here’s how to know when that time has come.

Enforcing Discipline

Taking on the “bad cop” role is essential when it comes to discipline. Children need to understand the consequences of their actions and the importance of making responsible choices. This means that at times, you might have to enforce rules, even if it doesn’t make you the most popular parent at the moment.

For Their Own Safety

Another situation where being the bad cop is beneficial is when safety is at stake. Whether it’s ensuring that seatbelts are fastened, curfews are met, or that they’re hanging around the right areas, taking a firm stance is not only necessary but caring.

It should also be noted that you’re teaching them valuable life lessons. It’s about helping your child develop resilience, a sense of responsibility, and an understanding of boundaries—all of which will serve them well as they grow.

You may find it hard to imagine asking your toddler to help you out with the household chores—surely they would break or drop something? However, multiple studies have shown that even very young children are capable of carrying out more than we usually give them credit for. Asking toddlers to help around the house can really develop their fine and gross motor skills while providing a boost to their confidence and sense of independence. Check out these relatively simple tasks that you can ask your toddler to lend a hand with.

Sorting Out Laundry

If you do the laundry regularly with your toddler, they will quickly learn and recognize which items are to whom in the household. You could ask them to deliver a pile of fresh laundry to an older sibling in the home. Alternatively, teach them how to help you fold sheets and other larger items—they will likely find this lots of fun and be eager to help you with it again!

Drying the Dishes

Even if you’re not quite prepared for your kid to help out with the washing up, drying the dishes is a great activity for toddlers. Start them off with lighter, less breakable items (any plastic beakers or plates are a perfect option) before graduating them onto drying cups and mugs. If you’re concerned about breakage, set them up with a dish drying station at a table or on a surface where they can hold the items properly.

Gardening

Due to their keen eyes and small size, kids are experts when it comes to weeding the vegetable patch. Once you’ve helped them identify what is a weed and what is growing produce, kit them out with some gloves and set them off. Many children love being out in the garden, so will persevere at this task for far longer than those set indoors. Getting your kid into gardening will also help to develop their love and respect for nature from an early age.

Summer! A time for carefree days, outdoor adventures, and—potentially—a dip in reading habits. A summer reading challenge can be the perfect way to keep your kids engaged with books and reap a multitude of benefits throughout the long break. Here’s why you should consider starting a summer reading challenge with your kids.

Combat Summer Learning Loss

Research shows that children can experience a decline in reading skills over the summer break. A reading challenge encourages consistent reading practice, helping them retain their progress and even improve their skills.

Spark a Love of Reading

Summer reading challenges can be a fun and engaging way to introduce children to new genres, authors, and characters. The freedom of choice within a challenge allows them to explore their interests and discover books they truly enjoy.

Boost Confidence and Independence

Setting reading goals and achieving them can be a great confidence booster for kids. Tracking their progress and celebrating milestones fosters a sense of accomplishment and encourages them to become more independent readers.

Family Book Club

For a fun twist on the typical reading list, consider turning the challenge into a family book club. Reading and talking about books together create opportunities for shared experiences and meaningful conversations.
