West Elm’s latest furniture collection was created with children in mind, and they found a perfect partner in crime for this new line. Children’s book author Eva Chen helped design West Elm’s new kids collection, which is largely inspired by her family’s love for reading.
Chen is a journalist and fashion editor, who published several children’s books over the years, including the Juno Valentine series, Roxy the Last Unisaurus Rex, and I Am Golden. She’s the mother of three young children, and her collection with West Elm is a love letter to their love for reading.
“I wanted to design a collection around the concept of raising readers and being surrounded by books. It’s something that I believe strongly in—giving children access to as many good old-fashioned paper books as possible,” she told Vogue.
Day Kornbluth, president of West Elm, described Chen as a perfect collaborator because she has fantastic taste and is acutely aware of what parents want for a kid’s room.
Chen’s West Elm line includes 26 pieces, and many of the bigger furniture pieces come with nooks and crannies that can be used for book storage. That’s the case with the lofted bed that comes with shelves and a built-in reading nook, but this collection also offers a comfy arched reading nook and several storage options for books.
