Naomi Osaka took a break from tennis earlier this year after announcing her pregnancy, and she just shared some more amazing news with her fans. The former US Open champion confirmed she became a proud mom of a baby girl alongside rapper Cordae.
People confirmed that the couple’s daughter was born in Los Angeles, shortly after the tennis star hosted a princess-themed baby shower for her closest friend. The couple didn’t immediately share the baby’s name with the media, but Cordae revealed they named her Shai while performing at Canada’s Calgary Stampede.
Osaka previously told her fans that entering this next chapter of her life has given her a new love and appreciation for the game she’s dedicated her life to because she’s no longer only playing it for herself.
“I realize that life is so short and I don’t take any moments for granted… I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, ‘That’s my mom,’ haha,” she wrote on Instagram.
Before giving birth, Osaka said she intends to return to tennis just in time to compete in the 2024 Australian Open, but she’s yet to confirm these plans.
