As a parent, you want to make sure that your kid uses their smartphone in a safe way. This means protecting them from some of the bad sides of technology and the internet, at least until they are old enough to understand them.
Luckily, both iPhone and Android phones allow parents to set up Parental Controls quickly and keep their kids safe. You’ll find the step-by-step guides on doing it below.
Set Up Parental Controls For iPhone
To set up Parental Controls on an iPhone smartphone, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Screen Time
- Tap Turn on Screen Time
- Tap on Screen Time Again
- Select “This is My Child’s [Device]”.
- Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions
You will be presented with a Content & Privacy Restrictions menu that will allow you to set the desired restrictions. This can include preventing explicit content and content ratings, preventing certain web content, putting restrictions on settings and game center, preventing iTunes & App Store purchases, and more.
Set Up Parental Controls For Android
To set up Parental Controls on an Android smartphone you will have to install Family Link app from Google Play if it didn’t come pre-installed. From there, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Digital Wellbeing and parental controls
- Select Parental Controls
- Select “Child or teen” for the user of the device
- Select the Google account of your child
- Sign in with the Google account you want to use for parental control
This process will link up your own smartphone (you need the Family Link app as well) with the smartphone of your child. From there, you can monitor the usage of your child’s phone and see its location, limit screen time, set content restrictions, and block Google Play apps.
