Most kids nowadays start using smartphones at a pretty young age, but many parents don’t feel like letting them join social media until the time feels right. Scarlett Johansson is one of them, and she recently opened up about facing the pressure to get a smartphone for her 10-year-old daughter.
Johansson recently set down for an interview with Today to discuss her directorial debut, Eleanor The Great. Several different topics came up during her conversations with the hosts, including her decision to avoid social media.
Johansson revealed that she doesn’t feel comfortable with her 10-year-old daughter Rose being on social media, especially now that she’s dealing with the pressure to let her join because she’s hanging out with older girls.
“I think social media is hard for young people. It’s hard for me to process. I feel like technology is moving so much faster than our human egos can process. I’d rather her wait until she’s an adult to be able to participate,” said Johansson.
In addition to Rose, whom she shares with her ex-husband Romain Dauriac, Johansson also has a three-year-old son Comso from her marriage with Colin Jost. She’s not too worried about him joining social media anytime soon since he’s obsessed with LEGO and doesn’t use a phone.
