Matthew McConaughey’s First Children’s Book Came to Him in a Dream

The list of celebrities with their own children’s books is getting longer by the day, and Matthew McConaughey is the latest to join the gang. The Oscar-winning actor published his first children’s book Just Because, after deciding to write it down after it came to him in a dream.

McConaughey is no stranger to being an author, and he previously found success with his 2020 memoir Greenlights. His new book Just Because, however, is a different beast because it’s dedicated to children – even though this wasn’t his initial plan.

McConaughey told People that his new book came to him “at 2:30 a.m. as a ditty in a dream”, adding “It was a song in my mind, and I got up and wrote it down.” This book allowed him to explore his subconscious, and the actor said it “sort of wrote itself.”

Writing a children’s book came naturally to McConaughey, and it was inspired by his entire family. The Oscar-winning star married Camila Alves in 2012, after six years of dating, and they have three children together – Levi, 15, Vida, 13, and Livingston, 10.

McConaughey said that his book sparked “a lot of good conversations” with everyone in his family, including his mother Kay, who told him that the life lesson in his book can be valuable to people of all ages, not just kids.
