Kelly Clarkson Won’t “Push” Her Kids into the Music Industry

You often see parents wanting their kids to follow in their footsteps and continue the family business or take the same profession. However, pop star Kelly Clarkson is taking a different approach.

Speaking during a recent appearance on Today, Clarkson said that she won’t “push” her kids to be musicians. The former American Idol winner shares seven-year-old son Remington and nine-year-old daughter River with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

“I’m a parent, whatever you want to do,” Clarkson explained. “It’s hard for me to sit here and go, ‘Don’t do this industry’ because I’m in it. I do think kids that grow up in it, it’s hard for them not to be inspired by it or want to be a part of it. So I kind of understand that if they do, but also like be a teacher or a doctor or anything else.”

Despite not pushing her kids towards the music industry, Clarkson doesn’t shy away from introducing them to it. During a recent Las Vegas residency show, Clarkson decided to bring out Remington and River with her on the stage for special guest appearances.

Remington helped his mother perform “Whole Lotta Woman” while River made an appearance for “Heartbeat Song.”
