Kate Hudson Explains How She’s Dealing With Her Son Going Off To College

Most parenting advice concerns raising your children and guiding them onto the right path, but what happens when they’re old enough to leave your home? It’s not easy to cope with your kids going off to college, and Kate Hudson recently revealed how she’s adjusting to this major change.

Hudson is the proud parent of three, and her 18-year-old son Ryder recently moved to the other side of the country for college. In a recent interview on The Today Show, the actress explained it wasn’t easy adjusting to waking up every morning and not having him around.

“It’s so hard. All you want is your kid to thrive and be happy. But, man, when I’m in LA, and I go to the coffee machine in the morning, and I don’t hear his voice, it’s a big one,” said Hudson.

Luckily, she’s not the only person in her friend group who feels this way. Hudson revealed that her A-list friends Gwyneth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon helped her cope because they were going through the same thing.

The trio’s children went to school together before heading to college, so they can turn to each other because they’re experiencing the same thing—knowing that your children are growing up and that you have to let them do their own thing.
