John Legend has been on quite a journey since his debut album came out two decades ago. In addition to being the EGOT winner, he’s also a father of four amazing children, and his journey as a parent significantly shaped his new album My Favorite Dream.
Written by Legend and produced by Sufjan Stevens, My Favorite Dream marks Legend’s first entry into children’s music. The cover features a childhood photo of the singer, while the tracklist includes a combination of covers and original songs, that Legend wrote with a goal to create new lullabies that could become classics.
“I sat at a piano and started making a list of topics and subjects I wanted to talk about, all things I talk to my kids about and messages to inspire them, comfort them, and encourage them to go to sleep. So those were the thought-starters for the songs, and I’d sit and write,” he told Vogue.
Legend has been married to Chrissy Teigen for over a decade, and they have four children together – Luna, 8, Miles, 6, Esti, 20 months, and Wren, 15 months. His latest album has been a family affair, and he even convinced Teigen, Luna, and Miles to join him on the lead single “L-O-V-E”.
