Children have the best imaginations. They make up games and fun stories to bond with each other and also to learn more about the world. This is such a wonderful aspect of childhood but can be easily lost if not nourished. There are so many benefits of having a good imagination, for example in academic performance, social interactions, and creativity. In order to not let them lose this skill too early you can encourage them to let their imagination run wild. Here are some simple ideas for ways to do this.
Ask Them to Make Up a Bedtime Story a Few Times Each Week
This is a really lovely activity and a great way to encourage their imagination to run its course. You may well notice improvements in their narration as time goes on. If your kid is keen on this and seems to enjoy it then you can let them be the storyteller more often, but of course, many kids will still want and need to be the listener of the story.
Make Up Games When in Nature
Nature is such a great source for kids to tap into when it comes to imagination. Most of the classic fairy tales include plenty of references to the natural world and the animal kingdom, so most kids will be familiar with the idea of turning nature into something magical. You could create games to do with fairies or woodland elves and let the kids take over when they get into it.
