One of the scariest things to go through as a parent is watching your child go through sickness. Even if all they have is a common cold, it’s still heartbreaking from a parent’s perspective—especially when you feel helpless, as if there’s nothing you can do to help. If you’ve gone through this as a parent, we’re here to give you a few pointers that’ll help ease the stress during these moments. Here’s how to treat your toddler’s cold with confidence and without worry.
See a Doctor
The first thing to remember is that you’re not a superhuman. It’s important to seek help, and the first person to ask for help from is a pediatrician. See what they recommend, and be sure to follow their instructions thoroughly.
The Basics
However, sometimes you may find yourself in situations where a doctor isn’t available, and if that’s the case then there are some basics you should uphold. First off, make sure to keep your tot hydrated. We’d also recommend giving them a Pedialyte to keep those electrolytes up during this time. If they have a stuffy nose, spray some child-friendly nasal spray to keep their nostrils moist. Having a humidifier may also help with this.
Finally, make sure to allow them to have plenty of rest. If they seem tired, let them sleep, even if it’s not on their normal schedule. Ultimately, maintain a positive attitude and reassure them that you’re here for them.
