Nail-biting is something that most children do. And while this isn’t a reason for alarm, sometimes the habit of biting nails can get out of hand. If that becomes the case with your children, try these methods.
Talk With Them
The first thing you should do is have a talk with your kid. Explain that what they are doing is not good for them in the long run and try to convince them it is a bad habit.
Try the Reward System
Kids usually react well to reward systems, so it could work in this case as well. Figure out some reward in the form of candy or a prize and tell them they will get it if they can go without biting their nails for a period of time.
Trim the Nails Frequently
If they have long nails, kids will be more suspect to bite them. So be on top of that, and regularly trim their nails to discourage such behavior.
Try Anti-Biting Nail Polish
Keep in mind that this should be your last option. If nothing you’ve tried works, then try anti-biting nail polish. They are not fun but do a good job. Just make sure to tell your kid about it and warn them about the effect it causes.
