Traveling with a child is one of the hardest aspects of having a child. Don’t get us wrong, there’s nothing cuter than watching them interact with their surroundings while you’re on an airplane, but it still presents complications. From the long flight itself to the jet lag your baby goes through in the aftermath, it’s no easy feat. Speaking of that jet lag, getting them back on a regular sleep schedule isn’t easy, but thankfully it can be done. Here’s how to help your baby recover from jet lag.
Repeat Bedtime Routines
One common side effect of jet lag is that your baby will wake up randomly at odd hours of the night. The best thing you can do is to repeat certain routines that you would normally do before you go to bed. If you sing to them before they go to sleep, or give them some formula, do this when they wake up in the middle of the night as well. It’ll remind them that this is nighttime, and help recalibrate their system.
Encourage Their Daytime Activities
One of the best ways to beat jet-lag for people of all ages is to be as physically active as possible during the day. The reason this is effective is because it wakes our body up to the reality that we’re experiencing daytime currently. When our bodies work up a sweat, it helps reset their system, and this is also the case when it comes to babies. Encourage them to crawl around on the floor, play with their toys, and bounce around like they normally do, and they’ll be back on schedule in no time!
