How to Handle Doctor Visit “Scares” When You’re Pregnant

When you’re a pregnant woman, you learn that doctor visits aren’t always fun. You start to hear about all the various things that could go wrong in a pregnancy, and when you add to that the fact that your hormones are going off the charts, it can be hard to cope with these matters. If your doctor gives you information about your baby that might scare you, here’s what to remember.

They’re Protecting Themselves

The fact of the matter is that some doctors don’t have good bedside manner. They have no problem informing you about all the potential things that could go wrong, without realizing how afraid it’s making you. But in reality, the doctors are protecting themselves from a potential lawsuit if something negative does happen. They don’t want to make you afraid. They’re merely covering their bases to ensure that they’ve informed you of all possible scenarios.

Control What You Can Control

Another thing to note is that there are certain things you can control and certain things you can’t. Regarding the former, you can control eating healthily and avoiding toxic substances to optimize your baby’s health. But beyond that, there’s only so much you can do. And when you’ve done all you can, there’s no sense in worrying about something bad happening until you’re absolutely certain that it’s happened. It’ll only make things worse!
