As a parent, you’ll be well aware of just how fast your child’s feet can grow. One minute they’re a size 4, and suddenly you need to head back to the stores to find them a whole new pair of shoes. When it comes to selecting school shoes it can get even trickier, as these are the shoes that they will wear day in, day out. They need to be smart, comfortable and durable—check out these tips on how to find the perfect school shoes for your child.
Opt For Leather
If possible, buy leather shoes. They will have more natural stretch and give than plastic shoes, so as your child’s feet grow the leather will offer a little more room for longer. They are also more breathable, and so overall better for your child’s feet.
Consider the Fastenings
A common mistake that parents make is selecting a pair of school shoes which their child can’t put on without support from an adult. If your child isn’t confident with laces yet, don’t buy them lace up shoes. While there should always be adults available at school to help them put their shoes on, this can delay your child in getting ready after sports lessons or at the end of the day. Keep things simple with pull on shoes when possible.
Check The Soles
Kids spend a lot of the school day running around, often on hard surfaces. Check the soles of the shoes you’re thinking of buying for school. They need to be fairly thick and robust, to deal with all of that wear and tear. It may also be worth investing in some superglue, so that you can stick a loose sole back together as an emergency repair.
