Moving is always a stressful activity for the entire family, regardless of whether you are moving to another house in the same area code, another city, or another country. But while adults will eventually find to cope with this stress, kids can have it much harder to deal with it. This means that you, as a parent, need to help them. Here are some tips on how to do it.
Have an Open Communication
Talk with your kid and explain why you are making the decision to move and focus on the positive sides of it for your family.
Introduce Them to Their New Home Before The Move
Don’t have your kid find out where they’ll live the moment they move somewhere new. If possible, introduce them to their new home and neighborhood before the move so they can know what to expect.
Make Them Part of the Moving Process
Having your kids be part of the moving process will preoccupy them and make them feel like they are actively part of it. This can be anything from packing to helping with decoration decisions for the new home.
Allow Them to Say Their Goodbyes
Make sure that your kids can say proper goodbyes. Let them enjoy their favorite activities in and around the house for one last time. Also, make sure that they can say goodbye to their friends if you are leaving the city.
