Fun Ideas for Your Next Family Picnic That Aren’t Sandwiches

Picnics are one of the best ways to spend time as a family. As long as the weather allows it, you can simply sit and enjoy being outdoors and take the day at your own pace. And sharing picnic food outside is one of life’s simplest pleasures and a great way to bond. If you’re bored of sandwiches, though, here are some exciting alternatives to try.

Bean and Couscous Salad

This is super easy to throw together and pop in a Tupperware. Just use cooked couscous and add salads of your choice, such as tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and olives. Then add some canned beans of your choice—butter beans or borlotti work well. Add a splash of extra virgin olive oil and some seasoning and you’re good to go.

Ham and Cheese Roll-Ups

These couldn’t be easier to make but are sure to impress and please the whole family. Just take some sliced cheese and ham and layer them on top of each other. Roll them up into a tube and poke a cocktail stick through to hold them in place.

Simple Salsa

Another one that can be whipped up easily and transported in a sealed container with no hassle. Chop up some tomatoes, onion, and cilantro and mix them together with some extra virgin olive oil and lime juice. Bring along a bag of tortilla chips for an easy but fun treat.
