“Emotional” may not be the first word that comes to mind when it comes to Eminem’s music, but his new song “Temporary” is a rare exception. Its heartfelt music video is a love letter to the rapper’s daughter Hailie Jade Scott, and it takes Eminem’s parenting journey full circle.
Eminem dedicated “Temporary” to his daughter Hailie, revealing, “I think what scares me the most is not being able to say all the things I wanna say to you when I’m no longer here.” This song saw him join forces with Skylar Grey and it was released as a part of his latest album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
A few months after its release, the music video for “Temporary” is finally here, and it’s the most emotional thing you’ll see all day. It opens with a series of old photos and home video footage from the 1990s and 2000, chronicling Eminem’s early days as a father, after welcoming Hailie in 1995 with his ex-wife Kim Scott.
“Temporary” video also features footage of Hailie from her wedding day, and it sees her revealing her pregnancy by giving Eminem a Detroit Lions jersey that says “Grandpa”. The video closes with a sweet note that she wrote to him many years ago, which reads, “Thank you for everything you do and always being there for all of us girls. You truly are the best dad in the world. Love you forever + 100 million dollars forever ever and always.”
