It’s not always easy to keep your kids safe in the extreme heat, but there are things you can do to make things better. Here are five steps worth taking to avoid the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke once temperatures rise.
Seeking Shade
Avoiding direct sunlight is one of the best strategies when it comes to keeping heat stroke at bay. Seek shade whenever you’re outside with your kids, especially during peak hours.
Proper Attire
The clothes your kids wear in extreme heat make all the difference. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing in bright colors will help them keep their cool, and you should also add a hat and sunglasses to the mix.
Keep It Cool
Make sure to keep your home as cool as possible during the hot summer months, or consider going to a local pool or a beach. Swimming can help your kids cool down, but wearing waterproof sunscreen and seeking shade is still a must.
Learning Lesson
Your kids will be more prone to protecting themselves if they know how to do it. Teach them the importance of staying in the shade and taking breaks from physical activities so they could stay cool when it’s warm outside.
