Many people turn to air conditioners when trying to keep heat at bay, but should you turn them on around your baby? ACs are perfectly safe for toddlers, as long as you take a few precautions to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for your little one.
Comfortable Room Temperature
Cold temperatures could lead to discomfort or health issues for the baby, so always make sure to set the AC to a comfortable and moderate temperature, between 73 °F and 78 °F.
No Sudden Changes
Don’t take your baby directly to a regular room after switching the AC off because this will be a shock for their tiny body. Switch off the AC earlier and give your toddler some time to get used to a higher temperature.
Indirect Airflow
If you’re turning AC on around your baby, make sure to keep them away from the direct blast of cold air. Position the crib or play area away from the air conditioner’s direct flow and dress your baby appropriately so it wouldn’t be too exposed to cold air.
Proper Maintenance
Keep in mind that it’s important to have your AC regularly cleaned and serviced to avoid possible dust buildup and mold growth, which can negatively affect indoor air quality.
