Most celebrities struggle to keep their children out of the spotlight, but it seems Anne Hathaway is actually succeeding. The Oscar-winning actress recently opened up about her decision to separate her personal and professional life and keep her two sons out of the public eye.
Hathaway tied the knot with Adam Shulman in 2012, and they’re proud parents of two sons, Jack, 3, and Jonathan, 7. The couple is rarely photographed with their children, and you won’t find their photos on Hathaway’s social media accounts—and there’s a reason why she’s so hush-hush about her family life.
Hathaway opened up about her need for privacy in a recent interview with NET-A-PORTER and said she wants her children to build their own paths.
“It’s something I feel is not just essential for my health – I’m on a team, it’s my family, and it’s not just about me. My family has needs, and one of the needs of children is that they need to be able to define their own lives. It doesn’t even occur to me to link the two up,” she explained.
Hathaway also previously told Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show that having children changed the way she approaches work. The Princess Diaries star explained that she became “a bit choosier because something really has to be so excellent to spend time away from them.”
