Angela Bassett Opens Up About Dropping Her Twins Off at College

Dropping your kids off at college can be a heartbreaking experience, but not for the Oscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett. Black Panther star recently opened up about the joy of dropping her twins off at college for the first time, and said there were “no tears” involved.

Bassett shares two twins—Bronwyn and Slater—with Courtney B. Vance, her husband of almost 30 years. Motherhood hasn’t been an easy journey for the award-winning actress, and her twins were born via surrogate in 2006, after seven years of in vitro fertilization.

The couple’s twins are all grown now, and Bassett recently faced a milestone pretty much every parent fears—dropping her kids off at college. Luckily, this wasn’t a heartbreaking experience for the acclaimed actress, who approached it with a lot of pride and joy.

“You know what, no tears. Just lots of joy. You think you’re going to cry, and because you think you are going to do that, it doesn’t happen. I remember when I went to college and how wonderful it was, so, of course, I wanted that for them too, so no cries, no guilt,” she said during a recent appearance on Today.

Bassett previously revealed that her twins attended 26 all-day tours when looking for a college to attend and expressed hope they would opt for Yale because this was where she met Vance. They first crossed paths at Yale School of Drama but only started dating a decade later after reconnecting in Los Angeles.
