Sometimes, the long summer break from school can feel like it stretches on forever, which, if you’re a parent, may not be ideal. Keeping your kids busy and entertained can feel draining at the best of times, but doing it week in, week out while you’re trying to work through the hottest months of the year can feel impossible. Why not try teaching your kids some key skills, so that they can keep learning over the vacation and practice these skills to give you a break?
Puncture Repair
If your kid rides a bike, it’s a great idea to teach them how to fix a puncture. Not only will this ensure that they can patch up their bike without your assistance, it’s a great life skill which will develop their independence for the future.
Bake Off
Teaching your kids a simple baking recipe can be a great way to keep them busy over the vacation. Baking also involves key skills, such as careful measuring, timing, and mixing. Cupcakes are a great option, as the batter is super simple to make. You can also extend their skill sets by asking that they decorate the cakes once they have cooled.
Simple Stitches
Why not set your kid a sewing project? You can do it with them side by side if they’re younger and need supervision with the needles, or if they’re older you can teach them some simple stitches and then let them get creative!
