Nothing beats reading a really good book, and it’s great when parents and kids can enjoy a book together. If your child is a little older, try reading a fantasy series with them. Kids love the in-depth worlds that authors can create, and adults will enjoy the more detailed prose and descriptive writing. Check out three of the all-time best fantasy series to read with older children or teenagers.
Harry Potter By J. K. Rowling
The world of Harry Potter needs little introduction. These fantasy books, set in a world of magic, mischief, and wonder, will capture the imaginations of adults and children alike. If you read them as a child yourself, you can indulge in some wonderful nostalgia and get to witness your child enjoying them just as much as you did as you read them together.
The Lord of the Rings By J. R. R. Tolkien
Another incredibly famous fantasy series, Tolkien’s Middle Earth is perhaps the most detailed and complex of any literary fantasy world. Some of the themes and scenes included in these books are probably better suited for teenagers rather than kids, but there are plenty of lighter and comedic moments to keep you both entertained.
The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins
A relative newcomer in the world of teenage fantasy writing, these books generated an incredibly popular film franchise and remain one of the most popular fantasy series to read. Again, some of the themes are better suited for older children, but the characters and the world created by Collins is incredibly detailed and these books are fantastic to read.
