]]>Glamour decided to use this year’s edition of the Women of the Year Awards to honor the mothers who raised some of the biggest stars of this generation. In addition to Knowles, the list of honorees also included Donna Kelce, mom of NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce, Mandy Teefey, mom of singer, actress, and businesswoman Selena Gomez, and Maggie Baird, mom of musicians Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell.
Knowles used her acceptance speech to reflect on her life as a mother to Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, and a mother figure to Beyoncé’s Destiny Child bandmate Kelly Rowland and her niece Angie Beyincé. She looked back at her rebellious teenage years and said her outlook on life changed once she became a mother.
“I feel like the teenage years are the most difficult, but it will get better and you get what you put in. That’s what I truly believe. The more you put into your kids, the more love and care and support you give them, the more you get out of it,” Knowles said in her speech.

She revealed that her work schedule is always built around her children, and she tries to tour when they’re out of school so they could explore the world together and get exposed to different languages, cultures, and lifestyles.
She also revealed that she likes having her kids by her side in the studio and during dance rehearsals, so it’s natural for them to learn the choreography. That’s exactly what Blue Ivy did during the Renaissance Tour, and Beyoncé eventually agreed to let her join her on stage.
“Blue is an artist. She has great taste in music and fashion… She’s a natural, but I did not want Blue onstage. Blue wanted it for herself. She took it seriously and she earned it. And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes,” she told GQ.

]]>The “Empire State of Mind” rapper recently did a rare interview with Gayle King to discuss the Brooklyn Public Library’s Book of HOV exhibit. They broached a variety of topics during their conversation, including the alternative name he and Beyoncé had for their daughter Blue Ivy Carter.
“It was supposed to be Brooklyn… We was calling her Blueberry. Like, ‘Look at the little blueberry.’ You know, it was like a nickname. It was just natural. We just took the berry off and called her Blue,” said Jay-Z.
Blue Ivy Carter turned 11 this year, and she’s on the path to reaching greatness, just like her parents. She made history as the youngest individually credited Grammy Award winner in history after being featured on Beyoncé’s single “Brown Skin Girl” and spent most of 2023 touring by her mother’s side as one of the dancers on the Renaissance World Tour.
In addition to Blue Ivy, Jay-Z and Beyoncé have two more kids together: twins Rumi and Sir, born in June 2017.

]]>The “mute challenge” originated during Beyoncé’s performance of the track “Energy” during the Renaissance World Tour. After singing the lyrics “Look around, everybody on mute,” the Grammy Award-winning singer and her dancers all “freeze” and encourage the audience to do the same. The goal is to make the venue as quiet as possible.
After witnessing the challenge at Beyoncé’s concert, Drummond decided to try it with her classroom. She first explained to her students the meaning of the word “mute” and then told them when and how to act like it.
In the video posted on her social media, Drummond can be seen trying out the challenge and being genuinely surprised with the response. The entire classroom, which she refers to as “D-Hive”, went silent.
AmThe video got a lot of attention on social media and earned praise from other internet users. It also prompted other teachers to try out the challenge with their students, and they have all nailed it. Maybe it works with a noisy household as well, it doesn’t hurt to try.
