Avoiding stress is almost impossible these days. It affects the whole family as parents stress about work, finances, and raising their kids while children stress about school, social relationships, and unexpected changes in their personal life. One way to address this is through stress relief activities that the whole family can take part in. These activities will collectively improve mood and mental health while strengthening the bond between parents and kids. Check out some of them below.

Dancing

Dancing and listening to music as a family is awesome. Everyone can show off their moves, get some laughs, and just get immersed in the music while disconnecting from everything else. It’s even better when every member of the family gets the opportunity to put their stamp on the playlist.

Gardening

Multiple studies have shown that gardening improves mood while reducing anxiety and stress levels. It is a great family activity, as everyone can find tasks they can do and collectively learn new skills. It is also an excuse to spend time outdoors and do some light exercise.

Riding a Bike

Riding a bike is a fun activity for both adults and kids while promoting a healthy lifestyle. Even doing it just once a week as a family will help everyone to decompress and enjoy quality time together.

Yoga

Yoga is all about relaxation and clearing your thoughts, making it an efficient tool for relieving stress. It serves as a way to improve physical health, leading to better flexibility, posture, coordination, and balance. Getting the entire family to buy in might require some effort but it can soon turn into a regular activity that everyone will enjoy.

If you’re looking for a way to spend some quality time with your family this holiday season, organizing a Christmas movie marathon is a good idea. With countless holiday movies to choose from, narrowing down your choice can be tough, so we’re here with some ideas for your next kid-friendly movie marathon.

Home Alone

Home Alone is one of the first movies that come to mind when someone mentions Christmas, and if you still haven’t introduced your kids to Kevin McCallister – now’s the time. They’ll have the time of their lives witnessing Kevin’s shenanigans in the first two movies, but you can keep the fun going by watching the rest of the franchise.

Animated Movies

Animated movies are always a safe bet for a family movie night, and you shouldn’t struggle to find ones set on Christmas. You can encourage your kids to check out some of the classics you grew up with, such as A Charlie Brown Christmas and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, or explore modern hits such as Klaus, Frozen, Arthur Christmas, and The Grinch.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter may not be a Christmas movie by definition, but there’s a reason why so many people watch it around the holiday season. There’s something incredibly cozy about the early movies from this franchise, and they feature many memorable festive scenes.

Parenting doesn’t always leave a lot of room for romance, but that doesn’t mean you and your partner can’t enjoy a great date night. If your usual evening consists of collapsing on the couch, it’s time to mix things up! Here are some fun and simple date night ideas that busy parents can actually pull off.

At-Home Movie Night with a Twist

Instead of just watching a movie on the couch, create a cozy movie night experience that feels special. Set up a mini “theater” in your living room with blankets, pillows, and your favorite snacks. Pick a theme—like classic rom-coms, action-packed thrillers, or nostalgic favorites—and watch a double feature. You can even take it up a notch by making themed cocktails or mocktails to enjoy during the movie.

Cook a Meal Together After the Kids Are in Bed

Turn your kitchen into a date night destination by cooking a meal together once the kids are asleep. Choose a recipe that’s a bit more indulgent or adventurous than your usual weekday dinners—think homemade pasta, sushi, or a gourmet dessert.

Recreate Your First Date

Take a trip down memory lane by recreating your first date at home. Whether it was dinner at a favorite restaurant, a night at the movies, or a visit to a coffee shop, find ways to bring elements of that experience into your own space.

2025 is just around the corner, and it’s bringing many trends our way – and new parents won’t stay immune to some of them. According to Pinterest’s trend forecast for the next year, “nesting parties” will be going stronger than ever, and they’re all about helping new parents prepare for the next chapter of their lives.

Pinterest describes “nesting parties” as “the baby shower as it should have always been”, but what does set these two concepts apart? Unlike traditional baby showers, “nesting parties” don’t put gift-giving front and center, and they’re all about helping parents prepare their homes for the baby’s arrival.

“Traditional baby showers are about the gifts and the guests. Nesting parties are about helping new parents prepare for the postpartum period, setting up their homes for baby’s arrival with freezer-friendly meals, diaper bouquets, and baby cabinet organization,” reads Pinterest’s press release.

What separates “nesting parties” from “baby showers” is the love language involved. While baby showers rely on gifts, “nesting parties” are all about acts of service and helping the expecting parents check tasks off their lists, giving them a helping hand when they need it the most.

In addition to searching for nesting party ideas, Pinterest users have also been looking for specific terms connected to this trend. “Diaper bouquet” emerged as a popular gift idea for new parents, while baby cabinet organization and freezer-friendly meals also experienced a boom in searches.

Wicked is taking the theaters by storm as we speak, setting box office records left and right, but is it the right movie for a family viewing? If you’re thinking of taking your little ones to see it, here are a few things worth taking into consideration before buying the tickets.

PG Rating

Wicked is rated PG “for some scary action, thematic material, and brief suggestive material.” This makes it a safe movie to watch with your little ones if they want to get transported to the magical land of Oz. There are some light innuendos and jump scares, but the film is generally considered suitable for younger viewers because the material isn’t distressing.

Heavy Topics

Parents are urged to give children “parental guidance” when watching Wicked due to some heavy themes it explores, such as bullying and discrimination. It can inspire you to discuss these topics with your little ones because it centers on a young woman facing little acceptance during her time at Shiz University due to her unusual green skin.

Run Time

Wicked is a pretty long film, with a run time of 160 minutes, and your kids might struggle to stay focused throughout. Only buy the tickets if you think they can handle it, and make sure they respect the theatre etiquette and stay silent during the film’s musical numbers.

Parenting is a full-time job and you’ll often have to put some of your favorite hobbies on hold, but reading shouldn’t be one of them. If you’re struggling to find time for a good book in your busy schedule, here are some tips and tricks that will help you make reading a part of your daily routine.

Get Your Kids Involved

You should try to foster a love for reading in your children, and one of the best ways to do it is to actually read together. While your kids are still young, you’ll be the one reading to them, but once they grow old enough to read themselves, you can plan joint reading sessions, where each of you can immerse in the power of a great story on your own.

Short & Sweet

You don’t have to set aside an hour every day to stay an avid reader. Reading for short periods of time is still reading, so keep a book at hand and use a quick 10-15 minute break to read a chapter or two.

Try Audiobooks

If you still haven’t discovered the magic of audiobooks, now’s the time to give them a shot. The great thing about them is that you can listen to them while doing household chores, going shopping, or commuting to work, so they’re a great fit for busy parents willing to multitask.

If you live within walking distance of a public park, then you have a great resource on your doorstep which can keep you and your kids entertained for hours. This is particularly true if you don’t have a garden, making the most of green public spaces can be a great way to introduce your kids to nature and let them enjoy the big outdoors. If you’re heading to the park soon and the weather is holding out, check out these fun, skill-building games that you can play with your kids.

Wildlife Spotting

Before you go to the park, create a simple sheet listing some of the common bug, animal, and plant species you are likely to spot in the park. As you wander around with your kids, they can tick off each wildlife specimen they’ve seen—this acts as great motivation to go for a slightly longer walk and helps them to learn about the natural world. If your park is super small, take a hula hoop, drop it on the grass, and then use a magnifying glass to help you peer at all the bugs and creepy crawlies moving through that patch of ground.

Obstacle Course

It’s really easy to create your own simple obstacle course, and running around this will boost your kids’ balance and agility skills, as well as help them burn off energy. Simply take a few cardboard boxes (you can collapse them to transport and then unflatten them at the park), a skipping rope, a hula hoop, and whatever other odds and ends you think may come in useful. You can set up the boxes as an agility course to run around, the skipping rope can be used as part of the course and you could ask your kids to jump into or over the hula hoop on the ground. Your kids are sure to come up with ideas to make the course even more challenging!

Ball Games

A simple game of catch is great at developing your kids’ coordination and agility, and on a nice warm day, it can be fun to play for hours. If there’s a group of you, you can split into teams and add rules to the game, bringing it more in line with a team sport such as netball or dodgeball.

Creating a family scrapbook is a wonderful way to preserve memories and celebrate the unique story of your family. This cherished keepsake can be passed down through generations, offering a tangible connection to the past. Here are three tips to help you create a beautiful and meaningful family scrapbook.

Organize Your Materials

Gather all the photos, mementos, and keepsakes you want to include in your scrapbook. This might be anything from family photographs, holiday cards, kids’ drawings, and ticket stubs, to small trinkets. Once you have everything in one place, sort them into categories based on events, dates, or themes. This organization will make it easier for you to design cohesive and chronological pages.

Choose the Right Tools and Materials

Invest in quality scrapbooking materials that will stand the test of time. Look for acid-free papers and adhesives to prevent your photographs and memorabilia from deteriorating. You’ll also need a good pair of scissors, clear glue, and possibly some decorative elements like stickers, stamps, or fabric.

Tell a Story

Each page of your scrapbook should tell a part of your family’s story. Use the items you’ve gathered not just to decorate but to narrate the moments they represent. Include captions and small anecdotes next to the photos to provide context.

Most kids like to watch movies that aren’t exactly age-appropriate, especially once the spooky season arrives. If your kids are asking you to let them watch some scary movies just in time for Halloween, here are a few PG-rated options that won’t scare them too much.

Hocus Pocus

The 90s classic Hocus Pocus centers on a trio of witches who are resurrected by a teenage boy who recently moved from California to Salam, just in time to fulfil an old All Hallows’ Eve prophecy.

Gremlins

Another classic horror comedy for viewers of all ages, Gremlins centers on a young man who unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town after breaking the rules concerning his strange new pet.

Ghostbusters

If you’re in the mood for a spooky marathon this fall, Ghostbusters is one of the best kid-friendly options because it features several films across different decades.

The Addams Family

The Addams Family is one of the most eccentric, bizarre, and spooky dynasties ever put on screen, and their quirky adventures will give you a nostalgia overload while also entertaining your kids.

Goosebumps

If you’re in the mood to explore some modern kid-friendly spooky movies with your little ones, this 2015 horror comedy inspired by R. L. Stine’s children’s horror book series Goosebumps is a good place to start.
