When you’re a parent, all you want to do is give your child a good experience in this life. You want them to be happy. You want them to laugh and smile. You want to give them a thrill, and one of the best ways to do that is to take them to an awesome theme park. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, here are three classic theme parks that’ll leave your kid with amazing memories for a lifetime.

Disneyland

Does it get any more classic than Disneyland? From hanging out with Mickey Mouse to taking a stroll through Toon Town to riding on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, there are endless attractions for your child to enjoy.

Magic Mountain

Six Flags Magic Mountain, which is located in Valencia (not far away from LA), is yet another theme park for all ages. If you have a small child, hang out with them in Looney Tunes Lodge, where they’ll have plenty of kid-sized rides to choose from.

Knott’s Berry Farm

Knott’s Berry Farm, which—like Disneyland, is based in the Los Angeles-adjacent city of Anaheim—is a theme park for all ages. It’s got hefty roller coasters for adults, but Camp Snoopy is the ideal spot for kids. They have mini-rides that’ll be just right for your little one!

Every parent must go through, almost as a rite of passage, the process of taking their children to Disneyland. And let us tell you upfront that the experience is a heck of a lot different that going as a child yourself. We’re here to equip you with some valuable tips that will make your family trip a magical experience you’ll cherish forever. Here’s what to take into consideration.

Proper Planning

You should be carefully planning your visit. Start by checking the park’s website for updates, show schedules, and special events. Map out the attractions you and your kids can’t miss, while leaving room for spontaneous moments of discovery. Remember, flexibility is key, as the unexpected can often lead to the most magical experiences!

Get Your Kids Excited

Prepare your little adventurers for the wonders that lie ahead. Engage them in the excitement by watching Disney movies, reading books, and sharing stories about the characters they’ll encounter. Let their imaginations run wild.

Packing is Key

Make sure to pack like a pro. Comfortable shoes, sun protection, snacks, and extra layers are a must. Keep your little ones hydrated and energized throughout the day with water bottles and healthy snacks. Consider bringing a stroller for tired little legs, and don’t forget to pack a bag of essentials, including wipes, band-aids, and sunscreen.

One of the best parts about having children is getting to take them to all the fun places you used to enjoy as a kid. Theme parks are great examples of this, from Disneyland to Six Flags’ Magic Mountain. However, it’s not always easy to gauge actually when your child is ready to attend certain parks. Here’s a few quick tips that’ll help you assess when your kid is ready for an event of this magnitude.

You Want Them To Appreciate It

The main idea is that you want your child to be able to appreciate the theme park. Take Disneyland, for example. If your child is under one year old, chances are they won’t be able to truly appreciate it. Will they recognize a difference in environment? Will they love the vibrant colors, smells, and sounds? The answer to that is a resounding yes. However, their level of capacity for understanding where they are is still a bit primitive.

The Sweet Spot

The time in their life where they’ll start to truly appreciate a theme park is that of three or four years old. At this point they’ll be so interactive that to see a real live Mickey Mouse would be something truly special to them. Not to mention the fact that there are countless exciting kiddy rides that they’ll be able to fall in love with, such as It’s A Small World, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and so much more.

As they grow older, their level of appreciation will continue to grow, but it’s safe to say that you can feel like you got your money’s worth by the time they’re around three or four.
