Although going on a road trip can sure be thrilling, sitting in a car for hours on end can become tedious, especially for younger children. Fortunately, with some creativity, you can keep your family entertained. Here are some fun games to play with your family in order to keep road trips pleasant.

Riff Off

Each person takes a turn to look at the license plate of another car and try to make a word using the letters in the license plate. For example, if the license plate is FYR43, you could say “foyer”. In addition to being fun, this game tests your critical thinking.

Radio Roulette

Turn on the radio and flip to a new station. As a new song plays, everyone has to guess the name of the song and the artist. Each right guess is worth one point. The first person to 15 points wins.

Fortunately, Unfortunately

In this game, one person starts by making a statement starting with the word “fortunately”. For example, “Fortunately, I remembered to pack sandwiches for the trip.” The next person then starts a follow-up statement with unfortunately. For example, “Unfortunately, I forgot to put meat on the sandwiches.” This is another fun way of testing everyone’s creativity.

Embarking on a road trip with your family has its ups and downs, but there are ways to make it easier. Your next family road trip will go smoothly if you keep these five useful tips and tricks in mind.

Perfect Destination

The destination you pick can make or break your road trip, and it’s best to choose a spot that’s not too far away from home if you’re new to traveling with your whole family.

Early Bird

Hitting the road early is a must, especially if you’re embarking on a longer trip. In addition to beating the crowds, chances are your kids will take a nap in the car to make up for lost sleep.

Road Trip Entertainment

Your kids will need a lot of distractions to make it through the road trip without asking you “Are we there yet?” every 10 minutes. Always make sure to pack video and audio entertainment to keep them distracted, and come up with some fun games you can play along the way.

Fun Stops

Stops are a crucial part of every road trip, and chances are your kids will ask for a lot of them. Let them have a say in when you’re going to take a break but don’t let them completely take the wheel because it will take forever to reach the destination.

Road Trip Snacks

If you don’t want to rely on fast food joints and overpriced gas station food, make sure to pack nutritious and healthy snacks for your kids before you hit the road.
