However, given the fact that children are much younger and less experienced, they sometimes don’t know how to express love very well. This can lead to them treating you, the parent, not very nicely—which can then lead to you feeling the need to cater to their every whim. But you simply can’t do that, and the reason is that you’re not your kid’s friend.

Powerful Bond

We’re not saying that you and your child can’t have a special bond. You probably do, and you definitely should. In many ways, you can be their friend, and even their best friend at times. However, this friendship comes attached with strings, and you can’t ignore them.

Discipline

You may think you’re doing your child a favor by giving them whatever they want when they’re whining and complaining, but this is far from the truth. In fact, you’re teaching them that all they have to do in life is complain in order to get what they want—which, of course, will not help them in the long run.

For their sake, you need to teach them discipline. This can be hard because it turns you into the bad cop, but if you truly want what’s best for them, you have to establish proper boundaries and make sure they respect them.
